The best roads are those travelled by few. The roads only the brave will take on. Life has a strange way of leading us to these roads, and you know when you get to that crossroad this is the make or break. Most of us choose to stay on the road with markings and travellers, we choose these roads because the fear of getting lost is unthinkable, but what we don’t realise is that it is while trying to stay on course is when we lose ourselves. And what I mean by this is that the people we choose to surround ourselves with are our markings our fellow travellers and by trying to please them, by trying to stay on course with them and to follow their markings we lose our sense of direction we forget why we started our journey in the first place.

Not all roads lead to the same places, not all roads are designed for all travellers. Some roads are only for the brave. For the beaten down wife who decided to take her kids and leave the violence. For the broken child who decided to make the world their own. For the mistreated wife who couldn’t take the mental and verbal abuse anymore. For the grieving widow who lost the love of her life at the young age of 24. For the father and mother who lost everything. For the hopeless girl who didn’t fit in because she was more attracted to her own sex. For the fallen, the forgotten. For those unsung heroes, these are the people you will find on the untravelled roads.

We live in a messed-up world where if youu don’t live the white picket fence life and you don’t have all the latest fashion or designer wear, if you don’t drive the newest model car, you are frowned upon.

Now I wish I was that fairy godmother in the movies, I wish I could make dreams and wishes come true, but remember we live in a messed-up world. This is no fairy-tale and if you don’t create your own happily ever after it most likely will never happen.

You were placed on this earth for a reason, you have a purpose. You need to travel the scenic route to find you again. You need to find that little bit of magic within yourself again, and the only way to do that is to believe in yourself. The scared mother can’t care for her kids until she can care for herself. The broken child can’t make the world his own, until he believes he is good enough. The husband can’t respect anything until he respects himself. The lonely widow can’t love until she has fallen in love with herself again. The hopeless girl can’t expect the world to accept her if she doesn’t accept herself.

The moral of my story today is that I urge you to travel the untravelled road. To take that leap of faith and to believe that you are worthy of all the good this world has to offer, to love yourself and to believe that you are magic!

We live in a messed-up world. But live every day like you are rocking it! Own your life. Stop pleasing the travellers sitting on the porches of their white picket fence homes, stop pleasing the girl with the Guess jeans and the fake eyelashes. The guy driving the fancy new BMW. Stop reading the road markings. You are here to design your own life. Live it the way you want to.

If I meet you on this untravelled road let’s have a beer. It’s been one hell of a hike up this mountain.

This is for all the brave souls out there may your fire never stop burning.

May you always have the courage to take the road less travelled.
